Apply to present your business to a panel of early stage Duke investors

If you are a Duke alumnus or alumna and a co-founder of a start-up company, we have organized a panel of sophisticated early stage investors who are Duke alumni and would love to hear your vision.

To apply to present to the investor panel, please follow these instructions:

1. Fill out and submit the application form below; and

2. Submit an Investor Pitch in the form of a PowerPoint slide presentation which you would present to the panel if chosen using the form at the bottom of the page. An excellent example is attached at the bottom of this page. Note that the length of presentations submitted should correspond to the six minutes entrepreneurs chosen to present will have to present to the panel.

The application deadline is Wednesday April 20th, 2011. Up to eight founding teams will be selected to present. Entrepreneurs selected to present will be notified by Tuesday May 3rd, 2011 to allow distant entrepreneurs to travel to San Francisco. We regret that we cannot accommodate entrepreneurs who wish to present their businesses by videoconference.

We suggest that each applicant cover the following topics in their slide presentation: 1) Problem, 2) Solution, 3) Product or Service, 4) Competition, 5) Customer acquisition, 6) Milestones achieved, 7) Financial projections, and 8) Financing sought and received to date. These are not strict requirements, but are merely suggestions.  For additional information about creating outstanding investor presentations, we recommend reading top notch VC firm Sequoia Capital's business plan outline and legendary tech executive and investor Guy Kawasaki's suggested presentation format. Both advocate longer slide presentations, which are for use in longer meetings with investors.

NOTE: Please be aware that participating in this event involves no guarantee of confidentiality. The organizers will make a reasonable effort not to distribute any materials beyond the panelists and the audience members who are in attendance.

Questions should be directed to Michael S. Cann Jr. T '95.
